Imphal, June 11 2023:
Manipur People's Democratic Front (MPDF) working president N Mahendra has strongly condemned the Union government's policy of "not killing the snake nor breaking the stick" with regard to its inaction over the attack on Meitei com-munity, the citizens of the country, by illegal immi-grants from Myanmar.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, Mahendra cited an excerpt from India 2023, published by the Publication Division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, men-tioning India's good re-lationship with Myanmar including India's human-itarian and development assistance to Myanmar.
This has made the stand of the government clear to the people.
However, the government's inaction against illegal infiltra-tions from Myanmar and violent perpetrations on the citizens of Manipur is condemnable He said that the Union government's policy of leniency against the provokers has prolonged the violence for over 40 days but the government is still continuing to feign silence.
Thus, the govern-ment should take respon-sibility for all of that has happen so far, he stated.
Mahendra further said that while damages to religious places are being discussed, the destruction of around 1500 Meitei shrines/temples is being ignored.
The Meitei community is formed by seven 'tribes' and as such, it should be included in the ST list.
All violence against each oth-er and blockading of the national highways should be stopped immediately, he urged.
The MPDF working president then said that consecutive governments have stated their politi-cal will to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Thus, he urged for a provisory in Article 3 of the Constitution to preserve the territorial integrity of the state.
