Imphal, June 11 2023:
With the restive situation in the state affecting normal activi-ties in diverse sectors, solid waste accumulating in Imphal city area is posing serious threat to health of people living in the area as well as commuters.
Since the violence broke out on May 3, NGOs engaged for collection of garbage have either ceased ser-vice or carrying out the task slug-gishly.
Imphal Municipal Corpora-tion (IMC) is also turning a blind eye on the matter even though the solid waste materials have been accumu-lating for over a month.
With the scorching summer heat and occasional drizzling, these piles of solid wastes have not only started to rot and emanate foul smell but are also turning to feasting zones for rats, flies and germs thereby posing a serious health risk to the public.
At some places, plastic wastes were also found partially burned.
People carrying out trades in Imphal and market goers drew at-tention of the government author-ity to take up measures to remove the solid wastes even though the law and order situation is not yet stable.
