The Meetei Christian Churches Council, Manipur (MCCM) has strongly condemned inclusion of Meitei/Meetei Churches in a writ petition filed by the Manipur Tribal Forum, Delhi with the Supreme Court.
In a statement, the Council said it has received a draft copy of the IA (Interlocutor Application) of the Meitei Tribal Forum Delhi's writ petition No 540/2023 in the Supreme Court of India.
The Kukis have included some of the 251 Meetei/Meitei Churches that were burned and dismantled during the clashes between members of the Kuki and Meitei communities.
"We strongly condemn this attempt to align the Meitei Churches with the Kukis in the writ petition," said the Meetei Christian Churches Council.
Urging the forum to remove the names of Meitei Churches from the writ petition, MCCM in a statement today said the petitioner, Manipur Tribal Forum Delhi should be held responsible for any consequences that may arise from the inclusion of the Meitei Churches without the consent of the individual Churches.

"We are dedicated to upholding peace, unity and harmony among all communities and are committed to safeguarding the integrity of the State," it added.
According to unofficial estimates, the death toll has surpassed 100, with over 20,000 houses destroyed and more than 50,000 individuals displaced within the region.
The Meetei Christian Churches Council Manipur is a unified body representing Meitei Churches and denominations.
