Imphal, June 11 2023:
Chairman of the Privilege and Ethics Committee of Manipur Assembly, Keishamthong Constituency MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam said that the Committee is yet to get a response from any of the MLAs on the show cause notice issued to them over the separate administration demand.
The Committee sent the show cause notice to the 10 MLAs on May 31 following the the complaint filed by O Joy, a resident of Kakwa, against the 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs to the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker and another complaint lodged by a resident of Saikul against Kimneo Haokip Hangshing (Saikul AC MLA) .
O Joy, in his complaint, claimed that the conduct of the 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs is unethical and a breach of oath.
Nishikant, who served the notice to the 10 MLAs, said any legislator taking the oath of office in Manipur Assembly cannot act in a way that lowers the dignity and privilege of the House.
"No one can be allowed to reduce the sanctity of the Manipur Assembly under the roof of which they took oath as legislators," he added.
Earlier, Nishikant had said that the Committee will take up a proceeding after the expiry of the deadline and submit its report to the Speaker.
A meeting of the Privilege and Ethics Committee was convened at its room at the Assembly before sending the notice.
