Mangani Leihun of elderly lady killed in Serou arson held

The mangani leihun ceremony of Sokhaibam Ibetombi alias Bino who was killed in the arson reportedly carried out by Kuki militants at Serou was held today at the premises of Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple at Haying Khongban, today.
Mother of nine - five sons and four daughters, Ibetombi who was eighty met her end on May 28 as she couldn't join the people who were running for their lives from the onslaught of the militants.
This is madness and even God won't forgive such cruelty, said the daughter-in- law of the deceased S (ongbi) Tampaksana who is now taking shelter along with her family members far away from her house which has been consumed by the fire of hatred.

Speaking to media persons after the death rituals, daughter-in-law of the deceased Tampaksana said that the Kuki militants started firing indiscriminately at their locality (Serou Awang Leikai) in the wee hours of May 28 at Serou and set aflame several houses.
Saying that they along with hundreds of other people fled towards the residence of Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit following the attack, she said that her mother-in-law however couldn't join them as she (Ibetombi) was very weak.
Saying that her grandchildren tried their very best to take their grandmother along with them, Tampaksana continued that Ibetombi stayed behind as the militants advanced furthermore and intensified the attack.
While trying to save the life of their grandmother, one of her grandchildren Premkanta (23) sustained bullet injuries in his left hand and inner portion of thigh and is undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital, she narrated.
"We didn't have any option to rescue her as the Kuki militants continued their attack till the morning of May 29," she sighed.
Saying that they were later shifted to the relief camp set up at Langmeidong Higher Secondary School, Tampaksana maintained that many families couldn't retrieve the bodies of their near and dear ones at Serou for days.
Further stating that her mother-in-law was found charred to death with only the head portion remaining, Tampaksana said that they were devastated on seeing the mortal remains.
The corpse was retrieved with the help of security forces.
This is madness, she said and asserted that even God won't forgive those who are attacking the unarmed civilians, burnt the houses which were built with blood and sweat and killed people mercilessly.
Most of the displaced families don't have anything with them other than the clothes they are wearing, she continued.
The Shradha of Ibetombi will be held on June 14 .
