Rongmei body appeals for peace

Imphal, June 11 2023:
Rongmei Phwam Delhi/Rongmei Council Del-hi NCR (RPD) has appealed to the government and citi-zens of Manipur to promote and maintain peace.
In a release, RPD chair-man Levi Thaimei and gen-eral secretary Huaineiguang Rwangmei expressed deep pain and sadness over the widespread devastating events that have caused untold loss to Manipur and its people since May 3.The RPD also expressed concerned over the crisis deepening and the state con-tinuing to experience more violence and unrest and ap-pealed for immediate end to violence and speedy resto-ration of peace and normalcy.
"We also extend our deepest condolences to the grieving families of the victims of the present violence and stand in solidarity with the thou-sands of affected people.
We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured." "Furthermore, we con-demn all acts of violence, brutality, hatred, and any violation of human rights.
We also condemn the de-struction of property, in-cluding houses, places of worship, and other estab-lishments," it said.
RPD also observed that although the present con-flict is said to be between the Meetei and Kuki communi-ties, one church belonging to the Rongmei Naga com-munity, Lamphel Rongmei - - Baptist Church in lmphal, was also burned down on May 4 .
"However, "eye for an eye" or violence for violence is not the solution to any problems or aspirations.
We need peace, not violence and hatred." RPD further conveyed, "As the Manipur state is ex-periencing one of the worst, most painful and difficult times, we must not allow any elements to incite fur-ther unrest.
Instead, we must all come together in the name of peace and pro-mote reconciliation." "We urge the government and all citizens of the state to work towards the resto-ration of peace and normal-cy in Manipur at the earli-est.
Let peace prevail," it appealed.
