Imphal, June 11 2023:
A group of armed miscreants attacked trucks injuring a driver and robbing all cash from 25 trucks, which was moving along security convoy, in Nungkao area of the National Highway 37 (Imphal -Jiribam) on Saturday.
The incident occurred when a column of empty trucks were heading from Imphal to Jirib-am along with security convoy of CRPF.
The armed miscre-ants stopped the trucks in Nungkao area.
As the drivers did not stop, the miscreants pelted stones during which a driver suffered head injury.
A complaint has been lodged at Khongsang police station.
On the other hand, loaded trucks coming from Jiribam to Imphal were waylaid by a group of well-armed miscre-ants in Rengpang, Nungba, Kaimai and Nungkao areas.
They robbed the drivers of all the 25 trucks all of their cash in-spite of the presence of CRPF convoy, which was escorting the truck, as well as security personnel on ROP duty.
One of the drivers told The People's Chronicle that despite the assurance giving by secu-rity advisor Kuldiep Singh, the drivers are facing life threat-ening situations along NH 37 too.
Demanding additional security along with strict in-structions, he said that in the absence of proper security, the drivers might stop their service any time.
Moreover, condition of the Nungba section of NH 37 has deteriorated due to heavy rain-fall in the past few days making it dangerous for trucks to ply.
The driver urged the govern-ment to repair the highway at the earliest to ensure smooth passage of transporters.
