Human chains formed, sit-in protests staged

Denouncing the kill-ing and injuring of innocent people, and destroying prop-erties beyond repair in the current communal violence, people from various walks of life formed human chains on Sunday.
People from different parts of Heingang and Lamsang as-sembly constituencies came out in large huge numbers and formed human chains starting from Koirengei till Awang Leikinthabi passing through Nilakuthi, Keikol, Potshangbam Khullen, Pot-shangbam Khunou and Awang Leikmthabi Shantipur and expressed their aversion over the current ethnic violence in the state.
The protestors shouted slogans like "Long Live Ma-nipur", "Territorial Integri-ty of Manipur cannot be de-stroyed", "Implement NRC in Manipur" and "Suspend So0 agreement with Kuki militants".
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the agitation, Koirengei Wangma Village Development Committee president Phijam Priyoku-mar regretted silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi even after over one month of eth-nic violence in the state and opined that such indifferent attitude testifies he has no love for the people of Manipur.
The president further un-formed that as a camp of Kuki militants under So0 agree-ment has been set up atop the hill adjacent to Awang Leikinthaba Shantipur, peo-ple of the area remain under constant threat.
There was also an instance when armed Kuki militants tried to abduct a person in addition to loot-ing properties of the village.
Therefore there is the need to deploy security forces in the area, he stressed.
Meanwhile, Palace Com-pound Youth Welfare Club (PCYWC) and Sana Konung Meira Paibi, Sana Konung Leikai staged a sit-in demon-stration demanding abroga-tion of So0 agreement with Kuki militants and implemen-tation of NRC in the state, at Palace Compound community hall on Sunday.
Protestors demanded for restoration of peace in Ma-nipur, protection of lives and property by implementing rule of law, protection of ter-ritorial and administrative integrity of Manipur, de-struction of narco-terrorist from Manipur, to look into the population imbalance seen in the state, prohibition of entry of illegal migrants from Myanmar, protection of reli-gious sites, protection of forest from poppy plantation, PM and Home minister should immediately intervene in the current crisis of the state, etc.
All Manipur Yoga Fraternity Union which is a conglom-erate 15 organisations and various Yoga associations of the state also organised sit-in demonstration at !ma Ibema Khunthokhanbi Shanglen, Thangmeiband while Ten-dongyan Youth Club organ-ised sit-in protest demanding the state government to take up stringent actions against armed Kuki militants for at-tacking and killing innocent people.
The protestors also observed a 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls during the ethnic violence.
All Manipur Nupi Marup Loitang Leikinthabi branch along with Loitang Leikin-thabi Youth club also organ-ised sit-in protest at Loitang Leikinthabi on Sunday, as Kekrupat Minuthong Devel-opment Committee (KMDC) organised a similar protest at Minuthong Kekru Villa de-manding the state govern-ment to resolve the crisis at the earliest.
The protest was participated by people of Meitei, Meitei Pangal, Kabui, Nepali and non-Manipuris.
Ningthem Pukhri Mapal Nupi Khunnai Chaokhat Kanglup organised a sit-in demonstration under the ae-gis of COCOMI at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal Makha Leirak community hall on Sunday.
Protestors held placards in-scribed "India government and Manipur government should not play divisive poli-cy", "There can be no separate administration Manipur" and "Save forest of Manipur".
A sit-in protest was also staged at Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak by the lo-cals demanding removal AR, abrogation of So0 with Kuki militants and implementation of NRC hi Manipur.
