A salute to the leadership quality of PM Modi

L Luingam *

Introduction

Many a great man of western countries were farmers and labourers. To give only few instances- Lloyd George was a farmer, Ramsay Macdonald a labourer and so was Abraham Lincoln of USA. The same is the case with Modi too who in his early years served the people as a hotel boy in his father’s tea stall.

It is absolutely an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs. These events remind me of what God said to Jeremiah, a famous prophet of his time that “I chose you to be a prophet before you were conceived in your mother’s womb.”

How true it is that there is no authority or power on earth which does not ultimately come from God, the creator of heaven and earth.

In every age, in every country whenever a major National crisis occurs, there were born a man of towering and dynamic personality to meet the situation of that land. There is no denying the fact that such a man is Modi of India. He has been richly blessed by his Gods who have endowed him with many privileges. Let us call this gift charisma. Charisma is something given to man by God which man himself cannot acquire.

Modi is now given the rein of leading a Nation where there is great social, ethnic, religious and linguistic diversities and which is also the world’s largest functioning democratic country, nearly 16% of the world’s population is Indians, living on 2.4% of world’s land surface.

As the common saying has it, “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown”, Modi bracing with the responsibilities of leading this very vast Nation must have begged God for wisdom to do his noble duties judiciously and effectively.

Wisdom is not what you know about the world but how much or how well you know about God. God’s purpose in creating a Nation is to demonstrate his wisdom to the world. Wisdom is the God-given ability to make right decision and discern between right and wrong, good and evil. Without God’s wisdom a man al- ways fails to view life from God’s perspective which can invite God’s wrath.

Characteristics

It is no exaggeration to say that Modi’s dynamic personality, his transparency and sincerity of purpose, his uprightness and sterling character, his impeccable wisdom and charisma for good governance, his gigantic influence abroad renders through his diplomatic prowess and continues transformative change within India manifested through his tireless and persistent initiative won for him the spontaneous love and admiration of millions of Indians and abroad.

The world extols him to the skies and calls him the most powerful and the most popular Prime Minister in the world. He has also received the world’s award thirteen times. India never had a Prime Minister like Modi before. He is undoubtedly second to none among all the PMs of India.

Despite all these, destructive forces began to raise their ugly heads, casting down the lies and deceptions. They criticize him and even hurl abuses against him, not because of what Modi did wrong but because of what the others are. They always give wrong picture about Modi and his Government. They always orchestrated that Modi and his Government is autocratic and so on and so forth.

Infected with the virus of deception and corruption many people accept the untruth as truth and crucified the really rare qualities of many good men. Nothing in all the world is more important than the truth but faithfulness to the truth is always costly as well as bitter and sour in some ways or other. Therefore, the truth is always scornfully rejected by purveyors of false propaganda and who are expert at feigning piety.

Lust for power, fame and pelf makes them blind to what is truth and fair. Human mind is so frailed and heart is so wicked that they always build barriers than bridges all along their life journey. Depreciation of the success of the ruling Government of the Government by the Opposition parties has become the culture of Indian politics.

Dishonest or negative syncretism is to be avoided so as not to sap the moral foundation of the Nation. Indian politics usually criticize the ruling Government not for common good but out of sheer jealousy and vindictiveness.

Jealousy breeds lies and kills the good conscience. That’s why the world has always been antagonistic and hostile to those who want to live a decent and truthful live. Nevertheless, there are many leaders in India like Modi who always stand firm for what is right regardless of the cost.

Achievements

Modi is truly true to his conviction of duty. His heart is filled with milk of love and humanity for the down trodden and millions of Indians who are living in abject poverty. Thus, his sterling good sense stimulates him to launch more than one hundred welfare schemes and projects with a view to ameliorating the financial condition of the less privileged and common people.

India has witnessed plethora of changes under Modi’s leadership. Some of the noteworthy achievements of Modi and his Government are– made India the fastest growing economy in the word. One Rank one Pension which Indian soldiers had been waiting for over four decades has been implemented. The long standing Ayodhya temple issue has been solved amicably. Article 370 and 35A have been abrogated.

India achieved the largest vaccination drive in the world to combat the covid-19 pandemic. Muslim women of India have been liberated from the cage of Triple Talaq. After pending for nearly 27 years, 33% women Reservation Bill has been passed in the Parliament.

Indian women have been granted permanent commission in all branches of Indian Armed Forces. Transitioning from women development to women-led development is another achievement of Modi. Equal wages to women have been guaranteed under the labour code and wages. Maternity benefit act is amended by his Government and raised from twelve weeks to twenty six weeks.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was envisaged to protect the girl child and also to provide her with a life of dignity. Indian women being socially weaker had to undergo oppression and injustice in this sinful human system in India but Modi has saved them and thus Modi becomes women icon in India.

Modi is also worthy to be called the reformer of modern India and at the same time his sharp political acumen, ingenuity and his strong belief in pacifism has made him the tallest leader in the world. So, I should say that the beauty of Modi lies not in his face but in his heart and head. I am also made to understand that Modi is a strong believer in secularism even though secularism is under attack in India today by Hindutva fanatic groups.

So far as Christianity is concerned, Christianity cannot be extinct from the soil of India so long as Christianity exists in other parts of the world, particularly in Europe and Western countries because of the fact that India under the leadership of Modi has very good and congenial relationships with almost all the Christian countries of the world.

Besides the God of Christians is a zealous God. History witnesses that God is always zealous for Christians. Let us recall the 17th Lok Sabha elections of 2019 during which Rahul Gandhi in his campaign and rallies had asserted frequently that BJP would not cross the margin of 200 seats. Similarly, Mamata Banerjee had also opined the same thing that BJP could hardly win 140 seats in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In connection with this, I had boldly mentioned in my article “God makes and unmakes Kings of the world” published in Imphal Free Press, dated March 30, 2019 that BJP led Government would be formed and Modi would be the Prime Minister of India for the 2nd term.

Likewise, the fate of 18th Lok Sabha election is already determined and the die is cast and NDA will form the Government with Shri Modi as the Prime Minister of India for the third term and his name will be etched in golden letters in the history of India whether one likes it or not.
