IDPs stage sit-ins for peace in state

Demanding authority concerned to initiate steps for ending/resolving the humanitarian crisis besieging the state since May 3 last year, the internally displaced persons (IDPs) staying in the relief camp set up at Old Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur staged sit-in-demonstration at Bishnupur Forest gate, on Friday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the sit-in participated by 321 IDPs including women and children, one Konthoujam Angoubi Devi, a displaced person from Churachandpur, rued that the present crisis has shattered her life with no source of livelihood and unable to afford proper education of her children.
She stated that despite the state government's repeated assurances of restoring peace and facilitating the return of displaced individuals to their homes, attacks by Kuki militants on Meetei community continue unabated.
She also advised the government to wake up from the deep slumber and take effective measures in the interest of the public in general and the displaced people in particular.
Residents of the relief camp at Mangolnganbi College in Ningthoukhong and Moirang College also staged sit-in protest at Ningthoukhong bazar and Moirang College respectively.
