Noney railway pier bridge 95 pc complete

Construction of world's tallest pier bridge of the Northeast Frontier Railway in Noney as a component of the Jiribam-Imphal Railway has been completed by 95 per cent.
According to Bhartia Infra Project Limited, the construction company, they are targeting to complete the bridge by the end of August.
In a statement, the work was awarded on August 15, 201 and the sub structure is 139 metre high.
Upon completion, the bridge will have a height of 141 metres and become the tallest pier bridge in the world.
The 703m long Noney Bridge constructed over River Ijai near the town of Nonev will surpass the current record holder, Mala Rijeka viaduct in Montenegro, which stands 139m above the ground.
The bridge is part of the new 111km railway line will transport passengers between Jiribam and the Manipur capital of Imphal in under two and a half hours, reducing the current 10 hours, 220km journey by road.
The full line includes 52 tunnels with a combined length of 61.3km, with the longest being 10.3 km .
Construction of the tunnels has seen use of vertical shafts for the first time in NF Railway's history to aid in tunnelling through the complex geological conditions of the Imphal Valley.
There will also be 11 major and 137 minor bridges as part of the Rs 14,322 crore project' .
