Distribution of ration cards to displaced people begins

Distribution of newly generated ration cards for the displaced people of Imphal East district, who are taking shelter in various relief camps, started from Tuesday under the initiative of Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana.
The ration card distribution was organised for the displaced people taking shelter in the relief camp at Bira-mangol College run jointly by Sawombung Students' Club, Sawombung Semgat Sagat Marup and Sawombung Meira Paibi.
DC Diana handed over the ration cards to the inmates.
Speaking on the occasion, Diana informed that apart from distribution of the newly generated ration cards to people affected by the ethnic violence in the state, the district administration has also taken up various activities to create income generation opportunities to the displaced people taking shelter in relief camps.
She further informed that a total of 530 ration cards have been prepared for those displaced people of Imphal East staying in 29 relief camps across the district.
Altogether 172 ration cards for those displaced people from other districts taking shelter in relief camps opened in Imphal East will also be generated afresh through coordination with the respective DCs and distributed by the CAF & PD very soon.
The DC also stated that the ration cards distributed on Tuesday are for those people who are beneficiaries of NFSA.
Ration cards for eligible beneficiaries who have not received till date will also be prepared by collecting their documents.
Khumanthem Diana also informed that the district administration in association with Handloom and Handi crafts, Veterinary Department and KVK is taking up steps to impart training on weaving and poultry farming to aid the displaced people have decent sources of livelihood.
Steps for shifting the inmates of the relief camps to temporary shelter homes is also being taken up, she added.
CAF&PD Imphal East DSO Haobam Bhupendra who is also OSD to CAF&PD minister, who was also present at the programme, said that the distribution of rations cards will be continued at other relief camps of Imphal East.
