Kuki militants torch more houses at Torbung

Moirang, July 18 2023:
Continuing their relentless aggression, Kuki militants burnt down three houses, one outhouse and one fertilizer warehouse, at Torbung Bazar Mamang Leikai at around 11.45 pm yesterday.
Many other houses of the same locality were burnt down by Kuki militants on May 3 .
Since then, all the Meitei people of the village had abandoned their houses and moved to safer places.
After firing several rounds of shots, the Kuki militants advanced to the abandoned village and burnt down the houses which escaped the May 3 arson.
The houses burnt down last night belonged to Angom Ibungo, Angom Mangi and Angom Inaocha.

The Kuki militants also burnt down a fertilizer warehouse belonging to Chingakham Sopen and an outhouse belonging to Angom Mangi.
Even though troops of Kumaon Regiment, Assam Rifles, CRPF and BSF are stationed not far away, they did not do anything when the Kuki militants opened fire and burnt down the houses and other structures, lamented some villagers.
On the other hand, one Head Constable of 133 BN, CRPF G Coy who was on duty at Torbung Bazar sustained bullet injury on his left foot.
The injured CRPF personnel has been identified as Shankar Prasad.
It is not yet clear how he got hit and injured.
Meanwhile, Tangjeng Khunjao and Napat villages came under heavy attack from Kuki militants this evening.
While Tangjeng Khunjao falls under Sugnu AC, Napat falls within Kumbi AC.
Tangjeng Khunjao and Napat are neighbouring villages, separated by the Imphal River.
Kuki militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, first started firing from nearby Leisan Tampak (Kuki village) .
The firing turned into a gun battle as village defence volunteers of Tangjeng Khunjao and Napat retaliated.
The exchange of fire was going on till the time of filing this report.
