Imphal, July 18 2023:
The Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) is facing difficulties in buying power (electricity) as tax collection has fallen by about 50 percent, said General Manager (Commercial) Mangshatabam Ravi today.
He said the difficulties the company is facing may be avoided if people pay their taxes regularly, especially postpaid bills.
At Manipur Press Club, Imphal, the General Manager said while power consumption remains the same, revenue has fallen by about 50 percent.
Manipur doesn't have its own power plant and as such power is bought from the Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) using the tax money paid by the consumers.
If the outstanding bills owed to MSPDCL are not paid then the company may face extreme difficulties in procuring power for supply to the people, he said.
He urged consumers, both prepaid and postpaid consumers, to recharge and pay their outstanding bills regularly to avoid power cut.
Prepaid recharge stalls are opened and if consumers want to recharge online, they may approach the offices of the Deputy Commissioners and National Informatics Centre (NIC) .
The General Manager also appealed to the people not to steal power.
Ravi further stated that the MSPDCL has been providing power (electricity) to relief camps amid the present crisis.
He said Nodal officers have been appointed to oversee power usage and related activities in relief camps.
MSPDCL is in touch with the Power Minister on issues related to collection of taxes and power usage in relief camps, he added.
