26 held for torching IGP's car, RAF repairs vehicles

Imphal, July 18 2023:
A total of 26 individuals, who have been arrested in connection with burning of IGP (Intelligence) Kabib K's official vehicle during a protest at Kwakeithel on Monday evening, were produced before the court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody for four days.
Source said that police arrested 30 individuals in connection with the incident out of which four were granted interim bail by the duty magistrate while the remaining 26 have been handed over to the custo dy of police for procedural grilling for four days.
Large number of protestors came to the street on Tuesday evening following reports of the police producing the arrested individuals before the High Court of Manipur.
However, district police of Imphal East and West along with large number of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and central paramilitary personnel were deployed to prevent any unwanted incidents.
Meanwhile, Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has disposed a complaint filed against the RAF, a special mob control team of CRPF, after it repaired vehicles vandalised by its troops during the crisis.
The complaint was filed by one Onil Kshetrimayum with SP Imphal West and others as respondents.
During its earlier hearing, MHRC directed the respondents to repair the vehicles.
After the respondents submitted action taken report, the commission disposed of the case.
The commission also expressed its opinion that the authority concerned should come up with a plan to construct a community parking for those vehicle owners, who do not have parking space.
