DC Imphal East distributes new ration cards to inmates

Imphal, July 18 2023:
Imphal East Deputy Commissioner Khumanthem Diana has distributed new ration cards to inmates of Biramangol College Women's Hostel relief camp in Imphal East district today.
With this initiative, a team led by the Imphal East DC and accompanied key State officials have kicked off the distribution of new ration cards to inmates of relief camps in Imphal East district who were previously beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) .
Speaking in this connection, Kh Diana assured that the District Administration has taken up steps to provide a means of livelihood to the displaced individuals seeking refuge in relief camps on top of the distribution of ration cards.
Sharing that altogether 530 new ration cards have been made for relief camp inmates from Imphal East, she added that the CAF&PD will issue new ration cards for the 172 households from other districts who are currently sheltering in Imphal East in consultation with the respective Deputy Commissioners.
Further, she informed that efforts are underway to collect the necessary documents from folks who do not have ration cards but meet the criteria required to become ration card holders.
The District Administration in association with the Handloom and Handicrafts, Veterinary Department and KVK are working on matching up the relief camp inmates with a trade that suits them in order to generate employment and an income stream.
Among the trades, handicrafts, weaving, vegetable farming and poultry (duck rearing) are also included, the Imphal east DC further stated.
Later, the DC enquired after the basic necessities of the inmates and also assessed the work progress of inmates weaving on looms sponsored by the Handloom and Handicrafts Department.
