Restoration Manipur (RM) organised sit-in-protest cum public meet at different pockets of Khurai assembly constituency on Tuesday against the brutal killing of Lucy Marem as also the prevailing unrest situation in Manipur, Protest demonstration cum public meets were held at Khurai Popular High School ground, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai ground, Salanthong Social Standard Club ground and Khurai Heikru Makhong.
Addressing the gathering at Khurai Popular High School ground, Apunba Manipur Kan-ba Ima Lup (AMKIL) president Lourembam Nganbi said 35/36 communities settling in Manipur including the Kukis lived in
harmony since the early period.
However, Kuki militants along with infiltrators from neighbouring countries indulged in large scale poppy plantation and created fissures among the peace-loving indigenes to earn easy money through drug factory and trafficking.
With regard to the killing of Lucy Marem, Nganbi said she being a mother of Mani pur was shocked at killing of the innocent Maring woman.
Women and children are left untouched even during war and it would have been appropriate if punishment was given as per law even if the woman had any fault.
She then called upon the people to find out culprits involved in the killing and stand together to punish all the culprits involved in the crime.
Sanaleibak daily editor Hemantakumar Ningomba, who was a speaker at the public meet at Khurai Heikrumak-hong, said the Kukis want a separate country for themselves and this has been made clear with the demand they raised very recently.
Kukis might be sons of Manipur but they are not indigenous.
They could live in Manipur but cannot snatch rights of indigenous people of the land, he said adding that the ongoing war is to save the Meetei community.
He then stressed the need for continuing the war till reaching a stage where Meetei's land cannot be affected and no disturbance could be given to future generation of the community.
