Sit-in by displaced persons seeks return to home

Kakching, July 18 2023:
Displaced persons from Serou, Sugnu, Wapokpi and surrounding areas staying in various relief camps in Kakching district staged a sit-in demonstrations at Kakching Keithel Ibudhou Naohallai Laimang on Monday demanding the government to take up measures so that they can return back to their respective homes as they do not want to live in temporary houses being built at Yaithibi Loukol.
Speaking to media persons at the demonstration organised by Committee for Displaced Victims, Kakching District, one Takhellambam Inaobi of Serou Mayai Leikai informed that though they appreciate government's initiative to construct temporary houses at Yaithibi Loukol for the displaced persons of Serou, Sugnu and surrounding areas, but they do not want to stay there.
Instead the government should make security arrangements like stationing an IRB battalion at the affected areas so that they can return back to their houses, he added.
Inaobi continued that the said temporary houses may be comfortable but they want to go back to their villages to protect them from getting encroached by Kukis.
Later after the protes.t, Committee for Displaced Victims, Kakching District representatives submitted a memorandum containing their demands to the Governor through deputy commissioner Kakching.
