Cong accuses HM of misleading House

Imphal, September 10 2026: With a Police Constable suspended in connection with the killing of six Naga civilians following their abduction from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has accused Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam of misleading the State Assembly, which is considered as the temple of democracy.

Addressing a press briefing at Congress Bhavan today, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice president Hareshwar Goswami recalled that the bodies of six Naga men were found mutilated at Kharam Vaiphei on June 10, after they were allegedly abducted by Kuki armed militants from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13 .

Saying that the mortal remains are still lying unclaimed at the JNIMS mortuary as the victims' families and Naga groups continue to demand justice, Goswami said the inability of the Government to persecute the killers is unfortunate.

During the recent Assembly session, Govindas had stated that a police personnel was arrested and questioned in connection with the case but was subsequently released after it was found that he was on duty on the day of the abduction.

He also said the response given by the Home Minister in the recent State Assembly session was unsatisfactory.

Reiterating that Govindas had denied the involvement of any police personnel in the abduction, Hareshwar maintained that a Constable identified as Thangginlian Vaiphei from Leilon Vaiphei has been suspended in connection with the case.

He claimed that the spread of falsehoods has become a regular practice under the BJP Government.

People had expected that what the Home Minister said on the floor of the Assembly was true and that no police personnel were involved in the abduction, he said, adding that the Minister's statement, however, had turned out to be incorrect.

The Congress leader said that a senior politician like Govindas outrightly denying the involvement of a police personnel during an Assembly session marked an unfortunate episode in the history of the House proceedings.

Hareshwar said that the alleged involvement of the Leilon Vaiphei chief also needs to be re-examined despite the denial by the Chief Minister.

Saying that the dignity of the State Assembly had been compromised by BJP leaders, he urged the Speaker and the Committee of Privileges and Ethics of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to take action against Ministers who allegedly attempted to mislead the House.

He also said there has been a growing exchange of words between Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, following the Naga leader's allegation that the cadres of KNF (P), led by Nemcha's husband, was responsible for the killing of the six Naga civilians.

Questioning how long the Government would take to deliver justice instead of merely stating that the case has been handed over to the NIA, Hareshwar urged the Government to act with accountability.
