Imphal, October 28 2026:
Social activist Bemlei Maibam has said she toured five North East States to apprise people about the Manipur crisis which remains unresolved since May 3, 2023.Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Bemlei Maibam said she undertook a 20-day tour of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura and Nagaland to inform political leaders, CSOs, student organisations and media about the real situation in Manipur.
She said many people have been displaced and are living in relief camps, many have lost lives, many remain missing and casualties continue till date.
She highlighted that indigenous people are unable to live in peace, free movement is not possible on National Highways, prices of essential commodities have soared and students going outside for studies have no option but to travel by flight.
She said many people in neighbouring States were unaware of the situation in Manipur and her tour helped clear misconceptions.
She further said political leaders, CSOs and student organisations in the five States expressed concern over the Government of India looking at the North East differently and voiced the need for unity among North East States.
They also assured to extend possible help, she added.
