Senapati, October 27 2026:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has endorsed the mass rally being organised by the COCOMI and four other CSOs at Imphal on October 31, 2026 .
The UNC has announced that a peaceful sit-in-protest/solidarity rally will be held in all Naga district headquarters simultaneously on the same day.
The CSOs are organising the rally demanding abrogation of the SoO agreement with Kuki militants, ending the proxy war in Manipur, and removal of Assam Rifles from the State, especially border areas, and replacing them with any other neutral Central forces like BSF .
In a press release, the UNC stated that people have been witnessing the deteriorating security situation, the continuous reign of terror unleashed by Kuki militant groups operating under the protection of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact, and the grave existential threat looming over the indigenous communities of the State and general public.
The role of Assam Rifles, especially in border and conflict areas, has become highly questionable, it alleged.
Instead of securing the Indo-Myanmar border and protecting indigenous villages, it has been perceived as partisan, mute spectators to aggression and a barrier to effective action by other security forces, it said.
Saying that it fully endorses the proposed mega rally of COCOMI, the UNC announced that in solidarity with the mega rally in Imphal, simultaneous peaceful sit-in-protest/solidarity rally will be held in all Naga district headquarters on October 31, 2026 from 11 am onwards Naga People's Union, Imphal and other Naga frontal organizations and Churches have been called upon to mobilize and ensure maximum Naga public participation in the mega rally in Imphal.
Simultaneously, district apex bodies, tribe hohos and district frontal organizations have been entrusted with the full responsibility for effective and successful execution of sit-in-protest/rally in their respective district headquarters.
The UNC has appealed to all concerned Naga tribe hohos, frontal organizations, village authorities, churches, women, youth and students to come out in large numbers and participate in the mega rally at Imphal and in their respective district headquarters to show people's collective resolve against terror and to protect the ancestral land and identity.
