Imphal, October 28 2026: A huge quantity of brown sugar was seized by police during an anti-drug operation at Valpakot village under Churachandpur police station on October 27 afternoon.

This comes just a day after a cadre of the KNF (MC), a SoO outfit, was arrested with 1 kilogram of brown sugar.

Based on specific information about transportation of banned drugs items in and around Valpakot village, Churachandpur district police carried out an anti-drug operation by frisking/checking suspected vehicles in the Valpakot area.

One Bolero Jeep coming in a suspicious manner was intercepted by the police.

On searching the vehicle, 7.732 Kgs of brown sugar concealed inside the vehicle were recovered, sources said.

On spot verification, the driver was identified as Lunminlal Mate (29) of Longja village, Chandel district.

Apart from seizing the brown sugar as well as the Bolero Jeep, Lunminlal Mate was arrested on the spot by observing necessary formalities.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Senapati district police and Kangpokpi district police arrested a 27-year-old drug peddler along with two soap cases containing brown sugar yesterday afternoon from Hengbung outpost under Senapati police station.

According to police, the drug peddler identified as Lamminlal Haokip (27) of Kholep village was arrested during a routine frisking and checking operation at Hengbung outpost.

As the combined security team saw Lamminlal Haokip moving in a suspicious manner near the outpost, he was detained and on checking, two soap cases containing brown sugar were seized from his possession.

The arrested person has been handed over to the Senapati police station.
