Imphal, October 28 2026:
The Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal (RCPCI) in association with Economic and Resource Development Organisation (ERDO) jointly organised a one-day entrepreneurs' awareness programme for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the relief camp at Nongada in Imphal East today.
The programme aimed at supporting IDPs with practical information on entrepreneurship, livelihood development, banking facilities and Government support.
It sought to open opportunities for sustainable financial self-reliance and help displaced families identify viable livelihood options to move towards economic independence with dignity.
Inaugurating the programme, Lamlai AC MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, who is also Chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, said the IDPs at Nongada are mostly from Gwaltabi and adjoining villages whose houses were burnt down during the ongoing crisis.
He said the awareness programme will benefit IDPs in understanding what economic activities they can take up under different Government schemes.
Describing the present situation in Manipur as very complex, Ibomcha said restoration of peace and normal life requires collective thinking of the Government and the people.
Appealing for joint efforts to bring peace, he said the crisis cannot be resolved by the State Government alone.
There is a need for collective deliberation on how far the State Government can go, what the people are going through, and how people can support the Government in bringing a solution, he added.
He stressed that ruling and Opposition must work together on issues concerning the State.
The Assembly had adopted a resolution for complete abrogation of Suspension of Operations (SoO) from Manipur and forwarded it to the Centre, and the Government is trying its best to take action against violators of SoO ground rules, he added.
The programme, was attended by Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, ERDO Kangleipak president Takhellambam' Sapajaoba, RCPCI president Dr Chingtham Deepak, secretary Adarsh Jain and office bearers of both organisations.
Dr Sinam Yoirentomba of MSME Technology Centre, Imphal and Dr Maibam Uttam Luwang, Lead District Manager, SBI, spoke as resource persons on selfsustenance and economic improvement of IDPs .
