523 days of blockades in 1225 days mark Manipur

Imphal, September 08 2026: In 3 years and 4 months (1225 days) since May 3, 2023, Manipur witnessed 523 days of economic blockades and shutdowns, and 385 days of internet services suspension.

The number of days from May 3, 2023 to September 8, 2026 is 1225 (days) or 3 years, 4 months, 6 days.

Even though almost all transport activities came to a complete halt during the early weeks and months of the conflict between Meitei and Kuki communities in 2023, the year saw 107 days of bandh/shutdown or economic blockade, as per official records of the Home Department this paper has accessed.

Interestingly, 2026 (upto September) recorded the most number of days under bandh/shutdown and economic blockade at 225 .

Of these, 46 (days) were bandhs/shutdowns and 61 were economic blockades.

2024 saw 113 days of bandh/shutdown and economic blockade.

2025 saw 78 days of bandh/shutdown and economic blockade.

Of these, 49 were bandhs/shutdowns and 29 were economic blockades.

Curfew

Further, during the period from May 3, 2023 to April 9, 2026, the entire State or one or more districts were put under curfew for 261 days, as per the official record.

The longest curfew was imposed in Litan village, Ukhrul.

The village under Litan police station was put under curfew for 209 days, from February 8, 2026 to September 4, 2026 .

Internet suspension

From May 3, 2023 to April 4, 2026, the whole of Manipur or parts of it witnessed 385 days of internet services suspension.

Internet services were shut in the whole of the State for 218 days in 2023.Internet services were last shut in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Pherzawl for 5 days from April 7, 2026 .

The order revoking the ban was issued on April 12, 2026 .
