Imphal, October 25 2026:
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Meghachandra has stated that the seizure of sophisticated arms and ammunition and the arrest of 17 individuals who were not associated with the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement from the Sinai camp exposed the prolonged failure to monitor the designated camps of Kuki militant groups.
Addressing the media at his quarters in Babupara, Meghachandra, who is the MLA of Wangkhem AC, questioned when the Government and the SoO monitoring authority had last inspected the designated camps of Kuki militant groups before the incident at Sunurok Uyok, which claimed the lives of three firewood collectors.
He also claimed that a group of people from the Nongshum area had recently gone to Sunurok Uyok to collect firewood following repeated assurances from the Chief Minister that peace had been restored and free movement had been facilitated across the State.
Three of them, however, were killed tragically, the Congress MLA said.
Stating that Kuki militants not associated with the SoO pact were arrested from the Sinai camp along with a large consignment of arms, ammunition and explosive devices recently, Meghachandra maintained that violations of the SoO agreement has become evident.
He also said that armed Kuki militants who are not part of the SoO pact might be occupying other designated camps as well.
The Government needs to verify the identities of those roaming the hill districts openly with arms.
Meghachandra also questioned the need to allow armed Kuki militants to remain at designated camps if the SoO pact had not been extended following its expiry on September 4, as stated by the Home Minister.
Meghachandra maintained that the SoO pact should be officially abrogated if it is not going to be extended.
He also alleged that disunity among the ruling MLAs is one of the reasons why Manipur continues to remain in a state of unrest.
Claiming that the BJP Governments at the Centre and in the State had been conspiring to disintegrate Manipur, he added that the conflict could be brought to an end at any time if the Governments are willing to do so.
Meghachandra further alleged that the Centre has been turning a blind eye to the crisis in Manipur, which had resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and the displacement of thousands of people.
There is nothing to expect from the BJP Government, he said and urged the Chief Minister to resign if he is unable to discharge his duties, so that a fresh mandate could be sought from the people.
