Imphal, October 24 2026:
The Peoples Democratic Youths Front (PDYF) has urged Chief Minister Y Khemchand to convene a meeting with his Cabinet Ministers and MLAs to work out a solution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The PDYF, the youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA), staged a sit-in protest at Naoremthong today against the October 19 killing of three firewood collectors by Kuki militants at Tangkhul Sunurok Uyok Hill near Nongshum.
During the protest, demonstrators displayed placards bearing slogans such as "Abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact", "We demand justice for the Nongshum massacre", "We condemn the killing of civilians by Kuki narco-terrorists" and "Station cadres of Pambei-led UNLF at Nongshum", among others.
Speaking to the media, PDYF youth-in-charge Nongthombam Bidyarani urged the Chief Minister to take concrete measures to end the cycle of violence in Manipur and enable people to live without fear.
Saying that the prolonged crisis has taken a heavy toll on the people, she said the three civilians killed in an ambush at Sunurok Uyok were daily-wage earners.
The situation in Manipur has become so grim that ordinary people continue to pay with their lives for the failure of the Government to resolve the crisis, she said.
Claiming that armed Kuki militants continue to operate freely in the hill districts, she urged the Government to abrogate the SoO pact and demonstrate that there is a functioning Government in place in the State.
Kuki militants would continue their violent campaign against civilians unless the Government took strong action against them, Bidyarani said.
