Imphal, October 23 2026:
The Court of Additional Sessions Judge, Manipur East, has extended the interim transit anticipatory bail of Lok Sabha MP Dr Bimol Akoijam till October 29 and directed him to approach a competent Court in Delhi to seek a regular anticipatory bail.
Dr Bimol had filed an anticipatory bail application on October 12 through his counsel against the State of Manipur and the State (NCT of Delhi), both represented by their respective public prosecutors.
The legal proceedings stem from an FIR registered against the MP at the Vasant Kunj North Police Station under different Sections of the BNS, 2023 .
On October 12, the same Court had initially granted a seven-day interim transit anticipatory bail, taking into account his apprehension of arrest, and the necessity to afford him a reasonable opportunity to approach the competent authorities in Delhi among others.
The defense counsel submitted that Dr Bimol has fully complied with all conditions imposed by the Court and cooperated with the investigating agency.
The counsel prayed for a final 10-day extension to enable the MP to move the competent Court in Delhi.
On the other hand, the Public Prosecutor objected to repeated extensions of the transit anticipatory bail, arguing that sufficient time had already been granted and that the application should be rejected.
After hearing submissions from both sides and perusing the case records, the Court extended the interim transit anticipatory bail till October 29 .
The Court made it clear that no further extensions of the interim transit anticipatory bail will ordinarily be entertained on the same grounds, instructing Dr Bimol to secure regular anticipatory relief from a Delhi Court by October 29 .
