Imphal, October 24 2026:
The Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) and the Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims, Moreh (COPMeV) have endorsed the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) call for "sustained stir" of indigenous communities from October 31 .
In separate statements, the civil bodies said that they fully support COCOMI's proposed stir and will take part in all public agitation.
COCOMI, on October 22, had said that it was planning a mass rally on October 31 in Imphal demanding the Government to abrogate Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement and "end proxy war" .
The Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) said that the recent killings of three civilians at Sunurok Uyok Ching and subsequent arrest of several cadres of Kuki militant groups have raised suspicion whether the Government has given a free hand to SoO groups' militants.
Further the Kuki militant attack on civilians sometimes after Pambei-led UNLF's MPA camp was removed from Nongshum area and the Central security forces' failure to respond in time have deepened the suspicion people have about the possibility of the Central forces facilitating the activities of Kuki militants, it asserted.
The Government must heed to the demands COCOMI and the people are raising.
The Government must abrogate SoO, "end proxy war", restore peace and facilitate the return of internally displaced persons to their respective villages and homes, MCM added.
The Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims (COPMeV) in its statement said that it will join the October 31 mass rally of indigenous communities.
While the Government of India and the Government of Manipur aren't seen taking up any concrete step to restore normalcy and peace, internally displaced persons are struggling at relief camps on a meagre Rs 100 per day per head, COPMeV said.
For normalcy and peace to return to Manipur and allow internally displaced persons to return to their respective homes, the Government must abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement and "end the proxy war", it added.
