Imphal, October 24 2026:
The growing tendency of suicidal thoughts among IDPs due to failure to provide them a dignified place to live is the failure of the Government, said Chandrakala, working president of National People's Women Front, Manipur.
She made the statement during a joint condolence visit by NPWF Manipur and the National People's Youth Front (NPYF) Manipur to the bereaved families of Salam Hemanta and Tongbram Ibungo, both inmates of the relief camp opened at Moirang College who died recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandrakala said the Government should take the hardships faced by IDPs who are bearing the brunt of the conflict seriously.
Stating that it is unfortunate that the Government has not been able to resolve the Manipur conflict even after nearly four years and has failed to resettle IDPs back, to their homes, she said the Government cannot remain silent when people are taking extreme steps due to increasing distress over their living conditions.
The Government should pay more attention to the displaced people and make arrangements to provide IDPs a place where they can live peacefully at the earliest, she appealed.
During today's visit, members of NPWF and NPYF shared the grief of the bereaved families of Hemanta and Ibungo and also extended possible assistance.
