Imphal, October 24 2026:
Condemning the killing of three persons who had gone to collect firewood at Sunurok Uyok hills near Khongbal Tangkhul village on October 19, the Manipur Democratic People's Front (MDPF) and Meira Paibi bodies have demanded abrogation of SoO and military crackdown on Kuki militant groups.
MDPF president Dr Narengbam Rajiv Kumar, who visited the bereaved families today along with party vice president, general secretary and leaders of Democratic Women's Front and Youth Front, said it is not right for the Manipur Government to remain silent while Kuki SoO groups violate ground rules.
He demanded immediate abrogation of SoO and launch of military crackdown, and said the demand of locals to bring back MPA personnel who were earlier deployed to protect villages should be acted upon by the authorities concerned.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the role of AR personnel stationed near the incident site, he questioned the purpose of central forces if people continue to be killed in their presence.
He said a proper investigation should be conducted into the incident and the culprits should be given befitting punishment.
It may be noted that a team of the party's Democratic Youth Front (DYF) had also visited the incident site on the day of the incident and met the affected families.
Meanwhile, Meira Paibis of Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai also staged a sit-in protest in front of Gambhir Singh Complex, Langthabal today demanding arrest and punishment of those involved in the Sunurok Uyok killings and military crackdown on Kuki narco-terrorists.
Meira Paibi leader Keisham Ongbi Madhubala said Kuki narco-terrorists brutally shot dead three persons at Sunulok Uyok and injured several others.
She said both Central and State Governments remaining silent while Kuki terrorists do as they please is highly condemnable.
In incidents like Jiribam and the killing of six persons at Konsa Khul, the Government only said two or three persons were arrested and then remained silent without disclosing names, she said.
She demanded that the Government disclose what action has been taken, award befitting punishment to the three persons said to have been arrested in the Sunurok Uyok case, and launch a military crackdown to eliminate terrorists.
Joining the chorus, Hiyanglam AC intending candidate Elangbam Amitkumar, who visited the injured persons undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity and extended assistance, said merely saying three Kuki narco-terrorists have been arrested in the Sunurok Uyok case without disclosing which terrorist group they belong to and their names exposes the failure of Manipur Police.
He said had the incident occurred in the valley, all involved would have been arrested within hours and their identities revealed, but in cases involving Kukis, the Government only says a few have been arrested and then remains silent without details.
This is deceiving the public, he said, demanding that the identities of those arrested be made public and befitting punishment given at the earliest.
He also thanked Raj Medicity for providing treatment to the injured.
