Imphal, October 25 2026:
The Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak has demanded the immediate resignation of BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi, accusing her of failing to protect the indigenous people of Manipur while allegedly shielding seven Kuki BJP MLAs who have been seeking a Separate Administration amid the continuing violence in the State.
A press release issued by WAMA questioned why Sharda Devi had not taken disciplinary action against the seven MLAs, including expelling them from the party, over their reported demand for a Separate Administration.
The organisation has accused her of prioritising party interests over the lives and security of the indigenous population.
WAMA alleged that despite the continued loss of civilian lives since May 3, 2023, the BJP State president had failed to demonstrate decisive leadership or take effective action against the MLAs in question.
It asked how she could continue in a position of responsibility while, according to the organisation, failing to safeguard the interests of the people she was expected to represent.
The organisation also cited the killing and mutilation of Naga civilians by Kuki militants and the deaths of three men from Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency, holding the continuing civilian casualties as a serious indictment of the prevailing security situation.
Questioning Sharda Devi's moral authority to continue as the State BJP president, WAMA asserted that leaders holding responsible positions must be accountable for their actions and their response to the ongoing crisis.
It maintained that if she could not protect the indigenous people and take action against party members accused of supporting a separate administration, she should immediately step down.
WAMA further argued that if restrictions on holding two positions simultaneously prevented Sharda Devi from effectively discharging her responsibilities, she should resign from the BJP State president's post without delay.
The organisation also pointed to growing public anger against Sharda Devi, stating that women had been raising their voices against her, with protests and the burning of her effigies at several locations.
It said the public's frustration reflected mounting resentment over the continued civilian killings and the perceived failure of political leaders to ensure people's safety.
WAMA asserted that the protection of party interests could not take precedence over the lives and security of the indigenous people.
It demanded Sharda Devi's immediate resignation and called for concrete action to protect civilians, prevent further killings and ensure lasting peace and security in Manipur.
