Imphal, October 25 2026:
The JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Arubam Ronil, Lairenlakpam Inaobi and Kshetrimayum Sushil has called an indefinite general strike with effect from Sunday midnight.
Notably, the JAC earlier requested Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to visit the families of three victims killed by Kuki militants at Khongbal Sunurok Uyok Hill on October 19, 2026 by 5 pm of October 25 .
But the Chief Minister failed to show up at Nongshum by the deadline set by the JAC .
Speaking to media persons at Ibudhou Nongda Lairen Pakhangba community hall, Nongshum this evening, JAC co-convenor Tonjam Somorjit said that the JAC received a written invitation for a meeting with the Chief Minister on October 22 .
In response, the JAC requested the Chief Minister to come to the homes of the three victims by 5 pm of October 25 .
On learning that the Chief Minister was visiting Sinai Camp this morning, the JAC and the people of Nongshum felt that the Chief Minister may also visit Nongshum and the people eagerly waited for the Chief Minister's arrival, Somorjit said.
However, Yumnam Khemchand did not show up at Nongshum till this evening.
The JAC, taking strong exception to the Chief Minister's total indifference to the suffering of the bereaved families and after minute deliberation, decided to call an indefinite general strike until the Chief Minister visits the bereaved families, he said.
People going for the Mera Hou Chongba festival, electricity, water supply, medical services and emergency services will not be covered by the general strike, he said.
