Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi ; National Cleanliness Day widely observed

Swachh Bharat Diwas or National Cleanliness Day was widely observed today commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation with an aim to instill the significance of cleanliness in one's life.
Jiribam
The National Cleanliness Day cum felicitation of sanitary workers and award distribution programme was held at the auditorium of Jiribam Municipal Council (JMC) at Babupara in Jiribam district today.
Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Manipur Chairperson K Sarat Kumar Singh; Jiribam Municipal Council, Caretaker Chairperson S Santi Devi; Deputy Commissioner Jiribam, Krishna Kumar (IAS); JMC EO M Surjit Singh and H Brojen Singh, Brand Ambassador ISI 2.0 graced the occasion as the presidium members.

The dignitaries, while speaking at the occasion, highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene for a healthy living.
The youths and children should be sensitized about the multiple benefits of staying clean and to implement such useful habits for the well-being of all.
As a part of the programme, Jiribam Municipal Council organised painting competitions for students of Class 5 and 6 on cleanliness.
In connection with Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, prizes were presented to self help groups (SHGs) and sanitary workers.
As a one-time education benefit, monetary assistance was provided to students staying in relief camps.
Kangpokpi
The District Administration Kangpokpi joined the Nation in observing the National Cleanliness Day by conducting a cleanliness programme participated by all the officers/officials/staff at the Deputy Commissioner's Office Complex, Kangpokpi district.
Similar cleanliness programmes were carried out by District Level Officers (DLOs) at respective offices, institutions, hospitals and schools in all Subdivisions.
Senapati
The Deputy Commissioner, Senapati Mamoni Doley, IAS, led the campaign in the district by carrying out cleanliness drive in the market area and Senapati River area.
In remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi, the cleanliness drive was carried out from Viewland till Old Monday Market Bridge by District Level Officers and its staff, CEO/ ADC Senapati, Senapati Karong Town Area Committee and its volunteers.
It may be mentioned that cleanliness drives were also carried out at every Sub-Divisional block, health centres, educational institutions and villages.
Thoubal
In Thoubal district, the observation of National Cleanliness Day was Led by Deputy Commissioner, Ahanthem Subhash Singh, IAS.
The officials and staff of the District Administration and line departments participated in the cleanliness drive.
Cleanliness drive was held at the office premises and the surrounding areas of the Deputy Commissioner's Office complex.
Officers and staff of various departments including District Social Welfare Office, MSPDCL, Thoubal Division and NYK Thoubal conducted social work at the Mini Secretariat North Block.
Similar cleanliness drive was also held at the office complexes of Thoubal PHE Division and the District Supply Office.
Ukhrul
Massive cleanliness drives were conducted at Ukhrul District Hospital, offices and town area.
The event began with a prayer by Hungpung Village Headman Peter Wungngayung at the Ukhrul District Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, CMO Ukhrul Dr AS Kapangring expressed that the cleanliness drive was conducted to focus on maintaining cleanliness which is the foremost duty to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Ukhrul AC MLA Ramnganing Muivah and DC Ukhrul Zuringla Kengoo also participated in the drive and planted pine trees at the front gate of the hospital.
Over 250 volunteers including medical staff, members of Thawaijao Hungpung Young Students Organization (THYSO) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) also took part in the drive.
Apart from planting flowering trees, the volunteers also fenced the boundaries of the hospital with barbed wires to prevent encroachment activities.
Later, the DC along with the CMO, Superintendent and staff visited the proposed nursing site at Hungpung village.
A similar drive was also conducted by the District Administration at the Mini Secretariat complex by all departmental staff.
It may be noted that Thawaijao Hungpung Young Students Organisation also conducted a cleanliness drive today.
Meanwhile, the District Police Ukhrul organised a District level essay and painting competition for the students of Ukhrul town as a part of National Cleanliness Day observance.
Altogether 63 students from 12 schools of Ukhrul town participated in the competitions held at Ukhrul Police Reserve Line in Phungreitang.
The essay competition was conducted for students of class IX and X on the theme "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" while the painting competitions were held in two categories on the theme "Go Green, Go Green" and "Litter Makes the World Bitter" .
