Imphal, October 02 2023:
Congress Working Committee (CWC) member former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam has posed whether the centre thinks Manipur is part of India or not as state's ruling MLAs who are in Delhi for the past many days are still waiting for an appointment to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.
Speaking to media persons after attending the 158th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 119th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at Congress Bhawan on Monday, Gaikhangam called upon all to give up violence and sit together for talks, raise our concerns and restore peace in the state, while adding that Congress will also extend all the help it can.
Observing that people of the state are at their limit of suffering and need peace, he said it seems that the BJP government in the state is doing nothing to restore peace.
Gaikhangam also called the situation in the state as very unfortunate with public having a perception that there is no governance or administration in the state.
He also maintained that it is a big failure of the BJP government as there is no resolution in sight to the crisis even after five months despite being in power in both the centre and state.
Noting that the present situation in the state arose due to the government not taking proper measures on time, Gaikhangam stressed the need for urgent talks between all stakeholders to bring solution and restore peace.
He further appealed all to follow the message of non-violence, peace and communal harmony of Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
The observance was also attended by MPCC office bearers and workers.
