Imphal, October 02 2023:
Since the central and the state governments have stated that the 5 months long crisis in the state is an external aggression against Manipur and India, all the 10 rebellious MLAs including cabinet ministers should be booked without delay, demanded Janata Dal United (JDU) Manipur.
Addressing media persons at the Chingmeirong North AOC office of JDU state unit, here, on Monday, party spokesperson Dr Nimaichand Luwang stated that if at all the 10 Kuki MLAs including the two cabinet ministers who are demanding separate administration for Kuki-Zo people within the state of Manipur are joining hands with the external forces in carrying out aggression in the state then the 10 MLAs should be booked under NSA without any hesitation.
He opined that in-spite of possible involvement of external elements in the current crisis in Manipur, it would be just a matter of few days or weeks for India, which claim to be one of the super powers in the world, to solve the problem.
However, the crisis is lingering for over 4 months and both the state and central governments are unable to put the situation under control.
It is not known how much time the central government would take to control the crisis.
All these facts suggest that neither the state nor the central government has the desire to restore peace and normalcy in the state, Dr Nimaichand alleged.
He also stated that the Youth of Manipur is demanding restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur and urging the MLAs and the chief minister to visit Delhi to exert pressure on the central leaders to contain the vilence.
Though, some of the MLAs and ministers are in Delhi and trying to meet the central leaders, it is disheartening that the chief minister is reluctant to visit Delhi as proposed by Youth of Manipur.
On the other hand, Nimaichand Luwang, while expressing contentment over the central government providing crop insurance of Rs 3.06 crore to the state agriculture department, appealed to department concerned to provide the compensation amount to those farmers who are actually affected by the present crisis in a very transparent manner.
The department should identify farmers who have been actually prevented from ploughing their paddy fields by the armed Kuki militants, he said.
He also said that the party met the Governor during which they submitted a memorandum urging her to form a neutral group which could negotiate between the two warring communities.
The press conference was also attended by JDU Manipur president Kshetri Biren, Kh Loken, O Nabakishore and Samuel Jendai.
