Imphal, October 02 2023:
The JAC against the brutal killing of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi by Kuki militants has lauded the Central and Manipur Governments for arresting some of the accused but nonetheless resolved to continue their protest until the bodies of the teenage students are retrieved.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, convenor of the JAC L Kanta Meitei urged the Centre and the State Government to hand over the mortal remains of the two students to their respective families so that the last rites can be performed in proper manner.
Reiterating that they will not withdraw their agitation until the bodies of the two students are handed over to their families, he said that they are ready to start a relay hunger strike from tomorrow onwards as announced.
Co-convenor of the JAC Ngasepam Bimola said that the young female student might have been tortured by the Kukis whilst she was in their custody alive.
Saying that the Kukis have announced to seal border areas of the Kuki dominated areas following the arrest of some accused involved in the murder case of Hemanjit and Linthoingambi, she said that the immoral persons in Kuki areas may even make the bodies disappear permanently to hinder the case.
Another case can be taken up over the killing of the two students if the bodies are retrieved, Bimola said and added that they will continue their demand until the bodies are found.
