Sit-ins demand befitting punishment to students' murderers

Demanding befitting actions against culprits involved in the brutal murder of students Hemanjit and Linthoingambi, students of private and government schools staged sit-in demonstrations at various locations on Monday.
Under the initiative of six student bodies, a sit in demonstration was held at Keishampat Lairembi community hall, here, where students from Photon School, Pinewood View School, CC Higher Secondary School, Delta Advance School, Albert's English School, Royal Academy, Wangoi Higher Secondary School CT Higher Secondary School, Central Academy School, DAV Public School, Comet School, Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, St.
Joseph Higher Secondary School, Praja Higher Secondary School, Competitive Success Academy, Model Higher Secondary School, Nongpok Maheikol and TG Higher Secondary School took part.
The protesters used placards inscribed with slogans such as "Root out Kuki Narco-Terrorist", "Detect and Deport Illegal Immigrants", "Deliver Justice to Lintho-ingambi and Hemanjit", "Implement NRC in Manipur", "Stop use of excessive force by security personnel", "Capital Punishment to Kuki terrorist who murdered students", "Government of India should not play communal politics to disintegrate Manipur" etc.
They also snouted slogans like "Long Live Manipur", "We want Justice" and "We condemn killing of students".
Speaking to reporters on the side-lines, TG Higher Secondary School debate and extension secretary Maisnam Sanathoi Chanu demanded that those arrested by the NIA in connection with the killing of two students should be given befitting punishment as per laws of the land and termed as unfortunate that Churachandpur denizens launched agitations against arrest of the murder accused by the NIA.
Denouncing the brutal killing of the student duo, sit-in-protest was also organised by students' union of Lilong Higher Secondary School in front of the school as well as at Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai, Konthoujam, Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall, Lamdeng, UNACCO School Khongman, Hapta Kangjeibung Mamang, Leirongthel community hall.
The protestors also condemned use of excessive force by the security personnel against the students who were demanding justice for the two murdered students and held placards which read "Punish those involved in the murder of the two students", "DGP who gave order to use excessive force against the students should resign", etc.
Meanwhile, girl students offered floral tributes to the photo of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi and protested against their brutal murder by armed Kuki militants on Monday evening.
The students also lighted candles and observed a 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls and prayed for their souls to rest in peace.
At Tekcham, Tekcham United Club Organisation (TUCO) and Tekcham Apunba Meira Paibi jointly organised a protest demonstration against the murder of the two students by armed Kuki militants and later formed a human chain.
Protestors also shouted slogans like "Punish the culprits involved in the murder of the two students", "Implement NRC in Manipur" and "Narco terrorists should be completely rooted out" .
