Protest demonstrations were staged at different locations today condemning the merciless killing of two innocent students, Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi.
A sit-in protest was staged today at Tronglaobi Makha in Moirang Assembly Constituency against the gruesome killing of the two young students jointly organised by the Border Protection Committee and Tronglaobi Makha Meira Paibi.
Speaking at the occasion, Meira Paibi leader L Priya, expressing grief over the killing of the two students, demanded capital punishment for the culprits involved in their brutal killing.
She expressed dismay over the Government's inability to save the two young students as they failed to take up stern and timely measures to trace the students who went missing on July 6 last.
Priya also denounced the biased treatment meted out by the relevant authorities and security forces towards the people of the hills and the valleys.
The security forces use excessive force whenever a protest is staged in the valley while they are lenient towards the protestors of the hills, she alleged.
Refuting the claims of returning of peace and normalcy by the Ministers and MLAs, she maintained that the claims made are far from truth as the people in the periphery and foothills are being subjected to frequent gun attacks by armed Kuki militants.
She stated that Kuki militants fired some rounds at Tronglaobi village yesterday night as well while the security forces stationed at the place did not even retaliate or took steps to prevent these attacks.
Demanding justice for the two slain students, a protest was staged at Ningthoukhong Ward No.2 Shantipur by the Meira Paibis of Loktak Project Shantipur Meira Paibi Lup today.
The protestors demanded the recovery of the bodies of the students and hand over the same to the bereaved families for performing the last rites.
Further the protestors cautioned that intense form of agitation will be carried out if the Government fails to fulfil the demands of the people.
Voicing the same demands, protest demonstrations were also staged at Changamdabi Mathak Community Hall by Changamdabi Muhammadan Club (CMC).
During the protest, two minute silence was observed by the protestors and prayed that the departed soul may rest in peace at the Heavenly abode.
Placards which read, 'We Want Justice for Hemanjit and Linthoingambi', We Condemn Killing of Innocent Students', 'Award Stringent Punishment to the Culprits', 'No to Separate Administration', 'We Want Peace', etc were used by the protestors throughout and similar slogans were raised.
Womenfolk of Tejpur in Kakching also carried out a torch rally and chanted many slogans yesterday evening.
The protest demonstration was organised by Tejpur Apunba Meira Paibi condemning the brutal killing of the students.
