Naga, Kuki CSOs settle case; accused to face action

Civil organisations of Naga and Kuki communities arrived at an understanding on Monday following the provocation and attempt to murder involving blatant gun firing against the regional officials of NSCN, GPRN by one self-proclaimed KNF cadre of September 27 last at Kangpokpi.
After thorough discussion, a settlement agreement was executed by Maram Thangal Council (MTC) representing the victim party and Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi (KIK), Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA) and Kuki Students' Organization, Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) on behalf of the accused.
Family of the accused person and Kuki CSOs surrendered the weapon used in the incident to the regional authority besides tendering apology and asking for forgiveness before the members presence on behalf of the accused identified as one, Thanglenmang Kipgen (38) for the crime he had committed.
Accepting the apology, the matter was settled in accordance with the customary laws.
In the spirit of enduring peace, both parties also mutually agreed to settle the case as per the Naga customary law on terms and conditions that the accused party shall duly initiate customary ritual to proceed for final settlement at Ecological Park, Mayangkhang Village on October 7, 2023, ensure befitting punishment against the accused for intimidating the Nagas in the name of KNF, place action taken report against the accused on October 7, take moral responsibility and initiate necessary steps to stop all kinds intimidation, harassment and unabated extortion/illegal taxation in the entire Naga areas by Kuki militants, and Kuki militants should stop loitering along the National Highways and around Naga villages with arms and in camouflaged uniform.
Both parties appended their signatures in the presence of UNC Working Committee and and Naga frontal organizations.
The signatories include A John (President, Maram Thangal Council), YK Kaping, (President, Thangal Union), MS Jerome (President, Maram Union) and Samson Remei, (Convenor, Working Committee, UNC) representing the victim party and Jamsei Haokip (President, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi), Seilet Haokip (Vice President, SAHILCA), Minthang Kipgen (President, KSO-SH) and Thangmilen Kipgen (Vice President, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi).
Addressing the media after the meeting, Samson Remei stated that the outrageous provocation of September 27 has been settled at the table of the Working Committee of the United Naga Council and mentioned that discussion between CSOs of both Nagas and Kukis lasted for more than 4 hours for bringing lasting peace between the two communities.
