TNL questions Governments' silence over killings of Nagas

The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has questioned the deafening silence of the Governments over SoO Kuki militants' aggression against Naga citizens, and sought immediate actions to deliver justice.
Citing a series of incidents in which Naga villages and civilians were attacked and killed, the committee said the Government of Manipur and the Government of India must initiate immediate and necessary statutory actions against all cases of abduction, looting, ambush, killings, molestation of women, harassment of children and arson perpetrated by the illegal migrant Kukis and Kuki militants operating under the suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement.
The cases must be transferred to the NIA, or the Governments may constitute a high level Central commission to probe the incidents at the earliest, it said.
Further, the Government must rehabilitate and pay compensation for the damage and losses in all forms incurred by the Nagas in the hands of the Kukis, it added.
The "partisan overture" of the Government of Manipur and New Delhi towards the prevailing imbroglio in the hills of Manipur has been an absolute embarrassment to the sanity of the world's largest democracy, it said.
"What is the clandestine agenda of the BJP-led Governments behind the Kuki's open war campaign against the Nagas ? This question requires no response from the responsible people in the corridor of power.
The answer is lucidly written on the wall- for all to decipher and draw a vivid conclusion," it asserted.
While the Government is quick to hand over cases to the NIA when it comes to the Kukis, most of the cases of attacks and killings of Nagas have not been given to the NIA, it added.
It cited several cases of Kuki militants' aggression which have killed several civilians and destroyed villages.

On April 18, 2026, the Kuki militants ambushed vehicles plying along the National Highway 202 near Litan police station, Ukhrul and shot dead two Naga civilians.
On April 24, 2026, the Kuki militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement stationed at Mullam and Songphel villages launched a deadly assault on members of the Naga Village Guard (NVG), who were on a vigilant patrol duty near Sinakeithei village, Ukhrul district.
A civil guard identified as Horshokmi Jamang was killed on the spot and four others sustained critical injuries.
On April 28, 2026, five members of the Naga Village Guard (NVG) who were on a routine vigilant patrol duty at Ringui Horei hills, Ukhrul district were critically injured in an attack carried out by Kuki militants.
On May 4, 2026, the Naga Village Guards on vigilant patrol duty at Ringui Horei hills, Ukhrul district, were fired upon by the SoO Kuki cadres and Kuki narco-terrorists.
The attack came days after the combing operation carried out by the security forces at Horei hills on April 30, 2026 .
On May 7, 2026, Myanmar's People's Democratic Party (PDF), backed by Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B), committed an external aggression on the Naga villages namely Choro, Wanglee and Namlee situated along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) under Kamjong district in the east of Manipur.
Several houses were razed to the ground and one person was injured.
On May 13, 2026, eighteen Liangmai Naga civilians including women and a child were waylaid and abducted at Leilon Vaiphei under Kangpokpi by the cadres of Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P) in collusion with the Kuki villagers.
Subsequently, six of them, all men, were butchered to death beyond recognition.
The mortal remains were recovered only on June 10, 2026.In this case, the NIA moved into action only in the month of July 2026 .
On May 13, 2026, Kuki militants attacked a Bolero vehicle near Joujangtek Kuki village.
One occupant of the vehicle, Wilson Thanga (52) was killed on the spot, and two others, Oliv Jatung (42) and Thoireithei Thanga (48) sustained critical injuries.
On May 31, 2026, three youths of Konsakhul (Konsaram) village who went out to repair a water supply pipeline were ambushed and indiscriminately fired upon by the Kuki militants from Leilon Vaiphei village border area critically injuring one.
On June 8, 2026, Chunjanlung Panmei (57), a village authority member of Pongringlong Part-I under Noney district, was abducted and killed by Kuki militants.
On July 1, 2026, as many as 20 Kuki armed militants backed by KNA-B attacked and burnt Tangkhul villages namely Huimin Thana (7 houses) and Kherongram (13 houses) - a hamlet under Nampisha village, Kamjong district.
On August 14, 2026, Kuki militants attacked Langka Naga farmers, killing two persons and injuring two others.
On August 27, 2026, four villagers were killed in a cold-blooded ambush on the IT Road between Makui Asang and Thanamba Naga village.
The attack was allegedly carried out by cadres of the Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P) and the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) under the command of Jangboi Kipgen, Home Secretary of the KNF-P .
Ironically, none of the cases, except for one, has been handed over to the NIA, said the committee, denouncing the Governments' "partisan" approach to handling the cases and the crisis.
