Naga MLAs write to Amit Shah; Action sought against Nemcha, KNF-P leader

Imphal, August 31 2026: Following a series of attacks and murder of several Naga civilians, nine Naga MLAs have written to the Union Home Minister seeking action against Kuki-Zo leaders and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, accusing the latter of "colluding" with a Kuki militant group.

Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen's office is "colluding" with the Kuki militant group KNF-P led by her husband Thangboi Kipgen, claimed the Naga MLAs, seeking "action" against her.

The nine Naga legislators who have written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah include Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Naga Legislators' Forum convenor and Tamei MLA Awang-bow Newmai, Karong MLA J Kumo Sha, Nungba MLA Dianganglung Gangmei, Chingai MLA Khasim Va-shum, Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing, Tameng-long MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah and Chandel MLA SS Olish.

The current human tragedy unfolding in Manipur has reached a critical and volatile stage, with grave ramifications affecting all aspects of public life.

If unbiased, decisive and bold action is not taken without delay, the State may descend into an uncontrollable situation, said the Naga MLAs in their letter to Amit Shah.

"Kuki-Zo leaders, who have publicly claimed responsibility for the killing and dismemberment of six innocent Naga citizens" must be arrested immediately, said the MLAs.

Notably, the 6 Naga civilians, all men, were among 20 abducted from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village on May 13.While the others were released, dismembered bodies of the six men were recovered from Kharam Vaiphei village, located close to Leilon Vaiphei on June 10 .

Further, the MLAs sought the intervention of the Union Home Minister for immediate arrest of KNF-P leader Thangboi Kipgen, the husband of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen.

The MLAs asserted that cadres led by self-styled Gen Tiger Kipgen of the KNF-P are alleged to have perpetrated the killing and mutilation of the six innocent Naga citizens.

"As you may be aware, self-styled Gen 'Tiger' Kipgen of (KNF-P) is a psychopath whose modus operandi is chopping up innocent victims into pieces and secretly burying them in different locations.

Such an evil man cannot be allowed to live within civilized society.

He must be apprehended and punished as per law of the country," said the MLAs.

When the mutilated bodies of the six Naga men are still unclaimed in protest against the non-arrest of the perpetrators, another four Naga men have been mercilessly killed by Kuki militants in an ambush on the IT road on August 27, said the MLAs.

The MLAs also cited the April 18 ambush on NH-22 at TM Kasom where two innocent civilians were killed, and the August 14 attack on Langka in which the whole of the village was burnt down and two farmers were killed.

"Many more horrendous incidents have been committed by the Kuki militants in the recent past but no justice has been delivered till today," said the MLAs .

In view of repeated violations and acts of terror against civilians, the Government of India must immediately abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with all Kuki militant groups, added the MLAs .

If no actions as demanded are initiated, the MLAs asserted that they won't be unable to defend or adequately respond to the challenges raised by the public concerning their continuous support to the Government of Manipur.
