Imphal, August 30 2026: To exert pressure on the State Government and all the legislators, the Imagi Meira has geared up to stage a sustained protest demonstration day and night close to the Assembly complex from September 1 .

Speaking to media persons at their Sagolband Tera Keithel office today, Imagi Meira president Thokchom Sujata reiterated that the updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) must precede any census exercise in the State.

She urged all the legislators to take up the issues of Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, harassment faced by village volunteers and the prolonged suffering of IDPs during the Assembly session, and take appropriate resolutions.

Development or progress can be realised only when there is peace in the real sense of the term.

When innocent civilians are being scalped on a daily basis, there can be no development, she said.

A sustained day and night protest will be launched from September 1 close to the State Assembly complex and it will be totally non-violent, Sujata said.

She urged legislators of both the ruling and Opposition parties to discuss all the key issues and adopt appropriate resolutions.

She also appealed to all civil organisations and Meira Paibi bodies to join the protest scheduled from September 1 .

The Government has been expressing strong indignation when people or CSOs call bandhs but bandhs and all other agitation are invited by the Government's failure to address public issues in time, said the Imagi Meira president.

Some MLAs went to Delhi recently purportedly to convince the Central Government on the need for first updating the NRC but none of them is able to make any statement to the public regarding their visit to Delhi, she said.

MLAs and Ministers, though members of the same Government, seem to be working separately, Sujata remarked.
