Imphal, August 31 2026: Three villagers, including one man and two women, were killed and four others injured after unknown assailants attacked N Teikhang village in Kangpokpi district today.

This comes four days after an ambush in the same corridor resulted in the deaths of four Naga civilians, including a school Principal, and injured several others.

According to sources, the attack took place around 9.30 am under T Waichong sub-division, when armed assailants allegedly opened fire and set some houses ablaze.

The deceased have been identified as Lamtinthang, Neichin, wife of Tongpao, and Hoineineng, wife of Thanggoulen.

Four persons were also injured in the attack.

Among those injured, Seilun reportedly sustained a bullet wound to his thigh, while Nemneichong was also injured in the firing.

The identities and condition of the other two injured persons are not known.

Several houses were reportedly set ablaze, forcing residents to flee the area amid gunfire.

The attack has heightened fear among residents of the Twilang-IT Road corridor, which has witnessed a series of violent incidents in recent weeks.

On August 27, four Naga civilians were also killed in an ambush laid by suspected Kuki armed groups along Imphal-Tamei road between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga Village, about 20 Km away from Kangpokpi district headquarters.

The deadly incident took place when a group of Naga villagers were travelling on a pick-up mini truck from Chawangkining to Makui.

Moreover, the mortal remains of six Liangmai Naga civilians, who were found mutilated days after being abducted from Leilong Vaiphei village on May 13 last, remain unclaimed at the JNIMS mortuary, with their families and community members demanding justice for the slain civilians.

It is reported that over 20 people have been killed in separate firing incidents since violence broke out between Naga and Kuki communities in the State in February.

Several houses have also been burnt in the clashes.
