Imphal, August 27 2026: Four Naga civilians have been killed in a deadly attack carried out by Kuki militants along Imphal-Tamei (IT) Road between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga village, about 20 Kms away from Kangpokpi district headquarters.

Sources said that the deadly attack took place at around 8.30 am today.

A group of Naga villagers were travelling on a pick-up mini truck from Chawangkining to Makui when they came under indiscriminate firing from heavily armed Kuki militants.

Wisobou Charenamei, Chwangkining Village Authority chairman; Tadsong- bou Ringkangmai, founder and Principal of Right Path School, Tumuyon Khullen; Mariakdibou Wijunmai, Makui Youth Club executive member and Anil Wijunamai, Makui Youth Club executive member were killed in the attack.

All of them bore multiple bullet marks.

While three of them were killed on the spot, Wisobou Charenamai went missing for a brief period before he was also found dead.

Wisobou Charenamai was also the former vice president of the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) .

Gaikamang Ringkangmai of Thonglang Akutpa and Japou MK, a student, survived the attack with bullet injuries.

Following the deadly attack, Central security forces moved in and launched massive search operations in the area.

However, there was no report of any arrest till the time of filing this report.

The injured victims and bodies of the deceased victims could not be evacuated till late afternoon.

Our Senapati correspondent reports that security forces and authorities have made arrangements to evacuate the injured victims and the dead bodies using Casspir vehicles and ambulances to Senapati District Hospital tonight.

Of late, IT Road has been witnessing frequent clashes between Kukis and Nagas, often resulting in casualties.

Meanwhile, the United Naga Council (UNC), JTC Manipur and the Makui Village Authority have vehemently condemned the deadly ambush and brutal killing of Naga civilians by Kuki narco-terrorist groups along IT Road.

A press release issued by the UNC alleged that the ambush was carried out by Kuki militants under SoO agreement, belonging to KNF(P), KNF and KRA, under the command of Jangboi Kipgen, home secretary, KNF/UPF .

Even though the Government sent the CoBRA unit and deployed security forces, these actions have merely served to obstruct democratic agitation.

"Instead of protecting the Naga populace, the security forces have been used to crack down on our village defence volunteers.

We have witnessed the Government arresting Naga leaders while Kuki narco-terrorists are left to repeat their murderous attacks with impunity", the JTC Manipur said in a press release.

The Govt continues to tighten security for one side while the other side continues to be decimated.

This is not justice; this is a policy of appeasement that is costing innocent lives, it said.

The UNC, JTC Manipur and the Makui Village Authority have urged the authorities concerned to intervene immediately, book the perpetrators and deliver justice at the earliest.

Saying that such acts of terror must not go unpunished, the UNC has demanded constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the case of this heinous crime.

"Expressing our collective mourning and paying homage to our fallen heroes, a one-day Genna (shutdown) shall be observed in all Naga areas and district headquarters with effect from 6 am to 6 pm on August 28, 2026", the UNC said.

It said that all vehicular movement, shops and business establishments, Govt offices, private and Government institutions should remain closed during the stipulated period of Genna.

However emergency and board/common examination shall be exempted, it added.
