Thoubal, February 19 2022:
A sit-in protest was staged by supporters of Rharibam Jivan, who is the NPP candidate in Wangkhem assembly constituency, at Charangpat Maning Leikai on Saturday against distribution of pamphlets in some areas of Charangpat and Wangkhem alleging Jivan is a drug lord and calling for boycotting him.
Joining the protest, Jivan's wife Pramodini stated that her husband and his workers have been facing- multiple threats since announcement" of his decision to contest the election.
Claiming that he had received warning not to contest the polls and was threatened at gun point by workers of another candidate, Pramodini said that on February 17, police picked up two "workers from the stone crushing unit run by his father alleging that they found drugs from the site.
However, on the same day they were released after no drugs were found among the items seized by the police, she recounted.
While stating that the latest instance of distribution of pamphlets is intended to tarnish her husband's reputation, she urged authority concerned to investigate the matter.
Kh Jivan, who was also present at the protest site, expressed strong resentment against such low political act and said that he will seek help of the police to trace who is behind distribution of the pamphlet as it not only harms his reputation but has the potential to create misunderstanding among candidates contesting the Wangkhem seat.
