BJP, Cong line up heavy weights to address people ahead of first phase poll

A total of 173 candidates including 15 women are in the fray for the first phase of the poll scheduled on February 28 in which voters of 38 Assembly Constituencies will vote.
With election day less than 10 days away, campaigning is at its peak and the big two-BJP and the Congress-have lined up heavy weights to reach out to the voters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Central leaders have been lined up to campaign for the BJP in the coming days and the Congress too has not been falling behind with Rahul Gandhi scheduled to arrive here on February 21 .

With the Prime Minister scheduled to arrive here on February 22, a high level meeting of the BJP including its candidates was held at the official bungalow of the Chief Minister last evening.
On his arrival on February 22, the Prime Minister is lined up to address a public meeting at the Luwangshangbam Sports Complex at 11 am which is the home turf of Chief Minister N Biren in Heingang Assembly Constituency.
Prior to the visit of the Prime Minister, former Assam Chief Minister and now Union Minister of Shipping, Waterways and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow.
Sonowal is scheduled to attend the flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate in Wabgai Assembly Constituency Usham Deben Singh and later address a public meeting.
Sources further said that Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari is expected to arrive here on February 21 and address public meetings at Ukhrul as well as at Moreh.
Even as the BJP has lined up a number of Central leaders and Ministers to address the people of Manipur ahead of the election, AICC leader Rahul Gandhi will also arrive here on February 21 .
Straight on his arrival Gandhi is scheduled to visit the MPCC (I) office at BT Road, proceed to Shahid Minar and Nupi Lan Complex to pay his respect and later address a public meeting at Hatta Kangjeibung.
