'Voting in all 530 polling stations to be webcast'

District election officer (DEO) /DC Imphal West Th Kirankumar has informed that voting in all the 530 polling stations in the district will be webcast and monitored from the DEO office.
Briefing media persons on Saturday at his office chamber, Kirankumar conveyed that with regard to postal ballots there are 2834 absentee voters in the category of senior citizens or 80-plus electors and 444 absentee voters of PwDs in the district.
Regarding voting facility for the absentee voters, the DEO stated that altogether 55 polling teams will visit their homes in two rounds, starting from Monday.
For those who miss the first round, a second trip will be made on February 25, he said.
Kirankumar further conveyed that voters, who have opted for this facility will be informed about the schedule of the visits personally or to their family members through SMS on their registered mobile numbers as well as through home visits by the BLOs.
There are 3190 postal ballots for service voters in the district.
The postal ballots and requisite documents have al ready been sent to the voters electronically on February 12.Ballot papers received till 7:59 am of March 10 only will be accepted.
Officials on election duty who want to avail postal ballots can submit their forms till Monday to the concerned ROs, he informed.
Kirankumar also noted that the district has seen decrease in vulnerable polling stations from 253 in last election to 168 presently, while 13 polling stations in Singjamei, Wangkhei and Mayang Imphal ACs have been identified as critical.
Highlighting the initiatives taken up for the PwD voters, the DEO said that through 'PwD app'-mobile application, PwD voters can ask for vehicles and wheelchairs assistance.
Altogether 14 out of the 55 candidates in fray in the 13 ACs of Imphal West district have criminal antecedents, he said, while adding that there are a total of 3,80,480 electors in the district.
The DEO continued that a total of 18,326 EPIC cards for new voters have been distributed in the district through the BLOs.
On the initiatives taken up for smooth conduct of the election, Kirankumar stated that details including list of candidates, important phone numbers of officials concerned including ROs, AC wise observers, where the public can highlight their complaints and grievances have also been displayed at polling stations and localities.
The DEO sought cooperation of the public for ensuring free, fair and peaceful voting in the district so that there is no need to conduct re-polls.
