Andro Chingdong Meira Paibis decry abduction and thrashing

Imphal, February 19 2022:
Meira Paibis of Andro Chingdong Khuman Leikai staged a sit-in protest against the alleged abduction and assault of one Sagolshem Das of Andro Chingdong in escalating stand off at Andro Assembly segment ahead of the Assembly election.
Sagolshem Das was reportedly abducted on February 17 evening by some masked miscreants before he was released the next day evening after being assaulted and threatened of dire consequences his family if he continues to support, Sanjoy who is one of the candidates contesting in the upcoming State Assembly election from Andro Assembly segment.
According to Das, he was abducted near Yairipok Thambalnu Keithel at around 5.40 pm on February 17 and taken away in a Fortuner car by 5 miscreants.
His hands and legs were tied and blindfolded before the car drove for nearly one hour.
He was taken to a hut believed to be at an elevated location, he said.
He was beaten all through the night and threatened to stop supporting the aforementioned candidate, he said.
He was brought down from the location the next morning and released at Thiyam Yarok Kachin after driving for nearly one hour.
He was further warned not to enter home till dusk and threatened of dire consequences if he did not stop working for Sanjoy, he continued.
The local Meira Paibis staged the sit-in today expressing strong resentment over the incident and the ugly political situation in the run up to the State Assembly election.
Speaking to media persons at the protest site, one Hijam Amita strongly condemned the incident.
She stated that using excessive force and threats to persuade one to withdraw support to a candidate of one's personal choice was something barbarous and unacceptable.
She also urged the authorities concerned to book the culprits involved in the heinous act and deliver justice as per the law of the land.
