Imphal, April 26 2024:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has urged authorities concerned to incorporate the history of Manipur in chronological order in the upcoming curriculum for students up to class X, scheduled for implementation with effect from 2025.In a statement, SSUM commended the state government's decision to revise the curriculum till class X, while highlighting the importance of discussing events that led to the current situation.
The existing education system has contributed to societal issues and challenges and therefore there is need for systematically integrating the authentic history of Manipur into the new curriculum up to the tenth standard.
Suggesting how to incorporate the history of Manipur, SSUM said that if the early life of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was to be included in the syllabus for class V, his education in Bangladesh should be covered in class VI, and so forth.
Similarly, the Seven Years Devastation' should be included sequentially, ensuring students learn about it progressively.
Additionally, there is the need to expand the coverage of stories about Manipur's martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their homeland, which is already part of the curriculum.
This approach would naturally instil a sense of nationalism among students, opined SSUM while stated that its representatives discussed in detail about the new curriculum with SCERT which is taking a huge role in making the curriculum and chalk up measures to complete it in time.
SSUM representatives also suggested about printing books in bi-colour and multi-colour and perfectly binding so that the books have aesthetic impression on the students.
