'Conflict litmus test of Meetei courage'

Yelhou Mee Kanba Lup (YEMKAL) Manipur, which was established to protect and uphold interest of the indigenous communities of Manipur after outbreak of ethnic conflict in the state on May 3,2023, observed its first Foundation Day on Tuesday and paid rich floral tributes to portraits of those who sacrificed their lives in the ongoing conflict.
Angel Children Hospital & Vaccination Centre managing director Dr Taorem Yaiknomba Khuman, who attended the event as chief guest, said that as the prime objective of YEMKAL is to protect and promote culture of the Meetei community and safeguard territorial integrity of the state, it is imperative for the people to make collective efforts to achieve the objective.
As the aggression on the Meetei community since May 3,2023 is yet to end the ongoing conflict could be interpreted as a huge test of courage of the Meetei people, Dr Yaikhomba maintained while stressing the need for unity within the community and collectively discuss strategies to defeat elements inimical to integrity of Manipur, the Meetei community in particular.
Unity remains the only weapon for protecting the community, he said and called upon the Meetei people to put collective efforts for ensuring inclusion of the community in the ST list of Indian Constitution.
The commemorative event was also attended by YEMKAL president Loken Angom, advisors Kh Ibomcha and S Ngouba Meitei, and Women Vendors' Association, Nambol Bazar president A Chandralekha Leima among others.
The event concluded with presentation of simple gift to media persons.
